Why Blink 182 Sucks

[an excerpt from a Facebook Group Thread]

Blink 182 fans are inherently hypocrites. If there's any oxymoron here, it's "Pop-Punk." Punk is rooted in anti-establishment and anti-corporate movements. Blink's very essence contradicts this very message. You can't be a punk, and milk the very corporations you claim to detest.

At no point in Blink 182's career, did I ever get the impression that they were ever truly punk at heart. They always appeared to be MTV-cookie-cutout synthetic-punksters. In lesser terms, they were tools. Tools, who's only purpose was to make money for the corporations they represent.

Their music was mediocre at best. With the exception of a few tunes (I admit, "Adam's Song" wasn't all that bad), it was all very monotonous. Every song sounded exactly the same. So, any originality (if any) they had quickly faded. Unfortunately for many, these rhythmic and melodic boundaries are intentional, as they maximize a bands popularity (a concept well-known by the music industry). For those with limited musical taste, consistent and repetitive sounds have the musical attraction of a moth's irresistance to fly into a bug zapper. This is the exact science behind Pop music. It works. It makes money.

For those of you Blink 182 fans who are incapable of arguing with me in a civilized manner, don't bother replying to me. Calling us anti-Blink people "Emo Fags" is not acceptable. It does not fare well in your argument, nor is it at all relevant. If you're going to argue, do it right. Argue my my above points, or not at all. I'm neither a fag, or an emo. Not that it matters, but emo's aren't real punks either. They lack a certain necessary backbone.

The fact that you have no comments is funny to me.
I'm a pretty big Blink fan but I know that they're not a "Good band". I think Travis Barker is a very good drummer though.
Blink's a very catchy band and that's what they have going for them. They're not good live and that's another example of why they aren't really a great band.

Your arguments week, Blink 182 never claimed to be punk, nor have they ever referred to themselves as Pop-Punk, In fact they've never even labeled themselves. And as a Blink 182 fan the only problem i have with them is they've changed too much, its like they were trying to show how much they've matured. Music is just a persons opinion, If you don't like it so what move on to the next band. No need to be fixated on a band you don't even like right? If your gonna be wasting your time why don't you focus all your hate on the real problem Country and Rap.

I am a huge Blink fan they are the best music group of all time in my opinion and so what if theyre not totally "punk" all that shit like the rope pants and the spikey stuff that is weird. In their youth the blink boys were just screw offs that like to have a good time and thats what theyre music is about and i admit theyre songs are not hard to play but they are catchy and good the bands that you like people probably dont even know of cause they suck that much. if it is on mtv and the radio then usually the songs are good and blink is the best. And i disagree with your statment about how they suck in concert they do not i have seen them in concert they make it fun by telling jokes and playing there music real fast and if your a die hard fan you will appreciate it. Blink actually sings about things that are going on in young peoples lives and the songs sound really good i dont know what the hell you are listening to but blink rocks, and like i said earlier the best thing about it is they are all teenagers at heart and just want to have a good time and say stupid shit which i think is what makes them so good I cant wait for their new album to come out. blink 182 is awesome tom mark and travis are my boys. and you punker guy are a total freek have fun smelling listening to your gay faggot assed music.

I am a Blink fan, and despite the fact that their music may not be punk I do find their music very enjoyable to listen to. It and AVA are both very good mood music when with a special lady (or fella if thats what youre into). I have no illusions of it being rebellious but it can be enjoyed nonetheless.

skate punk i just totally fucking gay. tom delonge, mark hoppus (more than delonge), and ESPECIALLY travis barker (an awesome drummer? i dont think so) are all overrated as being great musicians. real musicians have real talent. the best guitarist ever is joe satriani, the best bassist is steve harris, and the best drummer is either john bonham or neil peart. they have actual tallent as opposed to these faggy posers

People call me a "music snob" because I don't like their pop music, but as a matter of fact I do listen to Green Day, Weezer, and Blink-182 a lot. To say so myself, I think that all the bands have talent (with the exception of Green Day) and they all have great senses of humor (not Green Day, again). Besides Weezer, they all claim to be punk, but really aren't. Punk really isn't very good, so screw it. I like The Offspring, but that's all the punk I can handle. Yes, they are monotonous, but they're music isn't as bad as current day pop music. Blink-182 would sing
"And that's about the time she walked away from me," as the first line of the chorus, and Lady Gaga would sing "T-T-T-T-T-T-T-T-T-T-T-Telephone! Telephone!" as her first line and entire chorus. I respect Blink as musicians and I don't really think they suck.

First of all, I wasn't planning on commenting on anything. However, homieo33 is forcing me to.

Homieo33- learn to use commas or proper grammar. You sound like a fucking idiot.

I do not hate Blink 182, but I cannot begin to fathom how the FUCK anyone can have them as their favorite band. I like to have fun, I like to screw around too. Obviously its not just me that thinks that Blink does not capture the essence of having fun or screwing around. I don't care what you wan't to label Blink as either, pop/punk/whatever. I don't wear 'rope pants', I wear anything from PacSun to Urban Outfitters, CLOTHING HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MUSIC. You can love a person's taste in clothing but they're music could be terrible. Vise versa. Either way, Blink is terrible.

I've seen Blink live because my friend wanted to see them since he likes them somewhat and they had been reunited or whatever. It was alright at best.

If you actually have an appreciation for music or play an instrument, you most likely do not appreciate Blink 182 and their repetitive, generic, tool music.

I have friends that like Blink a lot too, but you sound like a dumb ass. I can't say that enough. I can understand you sticking up for them but they are definitely not even close to really good music. I know this is an opinion. However, you stated yours and now I'm stating mine. I really appreciate the article that this person posted. My favorite song is Adam's Song also and I think I miss you is pretty good as well as someone else mentioned. The majority of their music, on the other hand, just sounds like the same shit over and over- Tom's weird ass voice, shitty guitar riffs, and Travis isn't bad but he is totally overrated.

This is another person's blog- If you really love Blink so much, I'm also interested how you found this, I found it by Googling "Blink 182 sucks." After this new single, I feel like its just Angels and Airwaves with the Blink title.

"and you punker guy are a total freek have fun smelling listening to your gay faggot assed music."
- What the fuck?

1. Freek is spelled freak.
2. Gay and faggot is just being repetitive.
3. What's wrong with homosexuality?
4. What does faggot assed really mean? The ass of a faggot?

YOU ARE A DUMB ASS. SHUT THE FUCK UP AND GTFO SO WE CAN HATE ON BLINK AND THEIR SHITTY ASS (YES SHITTY ASS- SHIT COMES FROM THE ASS-HOLE) MUSIC.

Alright I'm done, I was bored, had 5 minutes to kill on the computer ranting and annoyed with people who are in love with Blink and think the new single is the shit which its not.

Hom(ie)o is truly homo. (not meant to be politically incorrect.)

this is such bullshit!
Blink 182 may have started out punk, but they sold out.
Their music is mediocre at best and people only like them because they've seen them on tv. Most, but not all blink 182 fans are sheep.
I dont suppose anyone agrees with me when i say that the best music comes from the real troubled musicians, like, erm.
John Lennon, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Nirvana, KOL, MCR, SSS, i could go on, those last two bands are a bit out of proportion but...hey ho!

-_____- are you guys serious? I love blink but i do agree on them being idiots. Theyre music is repetetive, it doesn't require much talent(apparently to some...but i'd like to see them do what that band has accomplished), and yea they do suck live. I love these things though. I love how they sound live, i like they're lyrics, i like how they act all stupid on stage. I love all their songs. They seem to read my mind at times. They're one of my favorite bands. It's just my opinion and how i was raised and influenced growing up. I'm not a stupid tool or a sheep. I know great musicians but you just cant compare them to other bands. Like all the great soloists and what not. theyre like 2 totally different things. Nirvana was a great band, and if u ever learn how to play their songs, it's pretty much the same thing over and over as well. I don't care though!! i lvoe nirvana as well.

And the band never said they were punk! they're just blink. and i think i've seen one of their logos that says crappy punk rock. On stage they admit they suck horribly. They're just fun. They're lyrics are gold to me because they read my mind.

You really over-analyze things. I have that problem too. If you don't like blink-182, you have every right in the world to refrain from buying or listening to their music. However, a lot of people have such great memories of youth and high school that connect with blink-182. Obviously they aren't the most talented, but their music is easy to listen to and very enjoyable in opinion. Their are so many worse bands out there, that make blink seem amazing.

To be a genre geek, they are mostly associated with skate punk which has rooted from bands like JFA. I don't really think "pop-punk" as a genre really exists, it is just a term used to describe more catchy psuedo-punk. But this term has been coined since bands like the Descendents.

blink-182 has evolved as a band. Their new sound is well produced and mature. They have reached mainstream success. There is nothing wrong with that. The Beatles did that. It's just the music industry.

I want to see a "Why Simple Plan sucks" article.

Blink 182 didn't label themselves as punk at all, music is music you should appreciate all types of music. They inspired me to play guitar and bass and the whole ordeal that they suck doesn't mean anything to me because with the simplicity of four power chords and the unique voices of mark and Tom just gives it that Bing! Its catchy and their music reflects off the lives of everyone, young and old..Mark quotes "we wanna create music not only for the average teenager but as well as older fans because you can get rejected when you're 23 and grow up to be 80 and get rejected too. See what I mean? Think of the art and meaning of the lyrics before you blow off such a great band. One more thing they worked their asses off when they first started. Their families helped them advertise their band and they would sleep in the van that they purchased for gigs and cargo. They would live in the van and have barely enough money to get to the next gig. Sometimes they wouldn't even eat. And that my friends is a big inspiration and motivation. Keeps my head high and shows that no matter what the situation is you will find your way through to success

anyways, just kidding about the bieber thing lolololol, im a blink 182 fan btw. And they dont really suck live, only tom's voice suck, he didn't sound like that in their older live concerts, they were awesome live (Listen to "mark.tom, travis show" if you dont believe me), i think his voice is like that because of the painkillers and becuase he was diagnosed with skin caner. Mark's singing is still the same and travis is still awesome as always
(Sorry for my bad english, im a filipino ;3)

anyways, whos gives a shit if blink's not an great band, yeah tom's not that good at playing guitar like joe satriani, yes mark is not great at playing the bass as steve harris, travis is not that good as john bonham or neil peart, BUT they are still famous, Becuase people like their music, because alot of them can relate on the message of the song, for example: "rich lips"-A song about tome getting kicked out of an highschool because of drinking alcohol,"Dammit"- A song about breaking up "Dumpweed"- about a guy who is in a relationship that goes up and down, and while listening to their songs, ALOT of memories come back, and even thou their songs have like 4power chords repeating again and again, its catchy, and i love them live(even thou tom's singing suck lol) because they always crack up jokes, they even wrote a song about having a blow job,

Blink-182 was one of the most popular bands at the turn of the millennium, and spearheaded the second wave of pop punk and its journey into the mainstream. The glossy production instantly set Blink-182 apart from the other crossover punk acts of the era, such as Green Day. Cheshire Cat is often cited by bands and fans as an iconic release and Dude Ranch has been called a "genuine modern punk classic." Enema of the State catapulted the band to stardom, creating what New York described as a "blanket immersion among America's twenty-some million teenagers."[116] At the band's commercial peak, albums such as Take Off Your Pants and Jacket and Enema of the State sold over 14 and 15 million copies worldwide, respectively. The band was featured alongside Green Day, Rancid, Bad Religion, NOFX, and The Offspring in One Nine Nine Four (2009), a documentary examining punk rock in California.

I think it's very interesting that all of the Blink fans seem to ignore all rules of punctuation and basic grammar when arguing. Not to mention the way they argue. It feels like they think people who don't like blink are personally attacking them, when the fact of the matter is: not enjoying a band because of many clear reasons including poorly written music and the fact that they are sellouts is a completely acceptable. That being said, what right do we have to criticize people for the music they like? If it makes them happy, so be it.
